Kanjigate is a training system that helps users rapidly and efficientlylearn read modern Japanese written material. The method employs acombination of an up-to-date theory of memory retention combined with theall-important requirement that words be learned, not in isolation, butwith visualization of context. Context has two distinct meanings: thefirst is situational context where a word is used to reflect aninterpersonal situation; secondly, an individual Kanji often acquires adifferent shade of meaning and even totally different pronunciation whenpaired in association with another Kanji character.The basic course covers the 850 so-called Kyoiku Kanji, those that arerequired to be learned in the first six years of school in Japan. Thefinal course covers the remaining Kanji, for a total of the 1850 standardToyo Kanji required for general use by educated persons.
